WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 10, 2026) - Tuesday's game had some rare moments, big hits, and most importantly, another win for the Tars as they defeated Concordia St. Paul 5-2 at Alfond Stadium. Rollins now stands at 15-4 on the year, and are currently on a 13-game winning streak. The Golden Bears fall to 8-10 on the season.
Coby Vallee made quick work of the Bears in the first, and was treated to a fun first inning by his offense.
Joey Rubin led off with a double and then moved to third on a wild pitch. After
Collin Hughes drew a walk and stole second, both runners were brought home when
Matthew Mateo laced a double down the right field line. Two batters later,
Jayden Brown beat out an infield single that scored Mateo to make it 3-0.
A wild play ensued with two outs and runners on second and third.
Connor O'Sullivan, who had previously walked, got a huge jump and broke for home. The CSP pitcher fired the ball home, but was too late as the umpire called O'Sullivan safe. However, the field umpire conferred with his mates and said the pitcher balked on the play. O'Sullivan still scored, but was not credited with the stolen base.
Rollins had runners on second and third again in the second, but could not convert. In the top of the third, the Bears threatened for the first time, but Vallee induced a 4-6-3 double play to escape the jam.
Rubin provided some insurance in the fourth inning when he launched a moonshot homerun over the left field fence for his second dinger of the year, making it 5-0.
In the top of the fifth, Concordia was threatening. A single, a walk, and another single loaded the bases with no outs. After catcher Eli Nelson fouled off five straight pitches, he put the sixth one in play with a sharp grounder to third. The sure-handed
Jimmy Thies was waiting on it, and started a picture-perfect 5-4-3 triple play to keep the Bears off the board.
After
Mark Loubier fired a scoreless sixth inning,
David Austen followed suit by striking out all three batters he saw in the seventh. Not to be outdone,
JR Struk achieved a similar feat by punching out the side in the eighth as well.
Concordia did manage to score two runs in the ninth as they rallied against
AJ Seymour, but the the junior righty buckled down and got the final two batters out to close the game.
Rubin was 3-3 with a single, double, and home run as well as a walk, two runs scored and an RBI in the game. Mateo drove in two, and O'Sullivan was on base three times with a run scored. Vallee picked up his third win of the season with five innings of shutout baseball, scattering four hits, walking one, and striking out three.
Next up for Rollins is a three-game set against the Embry-Riddle Eagles, their third SSC series of the season. First pitch on Friday, March 13 is scheduled for 3pm from Alfond Stadium.
