Three Hat Tricks Not Enough as Tars Fall in Overtime

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (February 27, 2026) – Rollins men's lacrosse battled until the final whistle on Friday night but fell just short in a 14-13 overtime decision against #17 Flagler.

Flagler jumped out to a quick start, scoring four goals in the opening five minutes to seize early momentum. The Tars settled in shortly after, as Brady Greco won the faceoff and Jack McCallum secured the ground ball to initiate possession, leading to an unassisted strike from Sean Caracciolo to get Rollins on the board. Less than a minute later, Nate Paulo buried a feed from Conor Sweeney to cut into the deficit. The Blue and Gold continued to push, with Charlie Metz picking up a ground ball and finding Logan Myers for a goal to bring Rollins within one. The Saints responded to create some separation, but Aaron Williams answered with an unassisted tally to keep it a one-goal game at 5-4. Flagler added one more before Sweeney closed the quarter with a goal of his own, sending Rollins into the second trailing 6-5.

The Saints controlled much of the early second quarter, forcing several empty possessions while adding two goals to extend their lead. Caracciolo helped spark a shift midway through the frame, finishing off an assist from Williams. Williams followed with another goal minutes later, trimming the margin to 8-7, a score that held through halftime.

The third quarter belonged to the Tars. After a stretch of traded turnovers and missed opportunities from both sides, Logan McHugh stepped into the equalizer with just over six minutes remaining. Rollins then captured its first lead of the evening on Sweeney's hat-trick tally, and Williams followed with his third goal of the night to push the advantage to 10-8. Colin Selters, who entered in goal to begin the second half, provided a steady presence in the cage as Rollins held Flagler scoreless in the quarter and carried the lead into the final 15 minutes of regulation.

Flagler answered quickly in the fourth, netting two early goals to even the score. Sweeney responded once again, finishing a pass from Myers to put Rollins back in front. The Saints capitalized on a pair of turnovers shortly after to reclaim the edge, but Caracciolo delivered in a critical moment, tying the game off another faceoff win from Greco. Greco came up with back-to-back wins in the middle, and on the ensuing possession, Paulo connected with McHugh for the go-ahead goal with just under two minutes remaining. Flagler refused to go away, regaining possession in the final minute and converting in transition to send the contest into overtime tied at 13-13.

Rollins earned the opening possession in the extra period, but a turnover gave the Saints an opportunity, finding the game-winner to secure the 14-13 result.

Hat tricks from Sweeney, Williams, and Caracciolo powered the Rollins offense, with both Sweeney and Williams adding an assist apiece. McHugh contributed a multi-goal performance of his own, while Paulo and Myers each chipped in a goal. At faceoff, Greco was once again dominant, winning 21 of 26 attempts and scooping up 11 ground balls. On the defensive end, Selters and Dominic Cesarone led the way with two caused turnovers each.

Rollins moves to 1-3 on the season and will return to action on Saturday, March 7, traveling to Palm Beach Atlantic for a 1 p.m. faceoff.
