WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 13, 2026) – No. 19 Rollins women's lacrosse improved to 2-0 on the season Friday evening, defeating Colorado Mesa 12-9 at Cahall-Sandspur Field in a contest defined by a dominant third-quarter surge.
Holyn Trautwein led the offensive effort with a five-point night, tallying three goals and two assists.
Kali Gagnon and
Chloe Pierini each added two goals, while
Sydney Nickel,
Carsyn Christel,
Fiona Rizzo,
Audrey Grace Mumford, and
Katie Bell also found the back of the cage. Pierini, Nickel, Christel, and Rizzo went along with
Tess Hovivian to also tally an assist each in the contest.
Virginia Stone and Grayson Crowe tied with a team-high two ground balls each. Stone also held the co-lead in caused turnovers on the evening, forcing two alongside
Sunny McQuade. In the circle, Hovivian gathered four draw controls, helping earn the Tars valuable scoring opportunities.
In goal,
Alyssa Lentz earned the win with seven saves in 45 minutes of action, while
Anya Studebaker added three stops in relief. Rollins outscored Colorado Mesa 5-0 in the third quarter and converted multiple player-up opportunities, capitalizing on the advantage to build separation.
Rollins struck first in the opening quarter as Gagnon converted on a free-position opportunity during a player-up situation. Colorado Mesa responded quickly to even the score, but Rizzo finished a feed from Hovivian to give the Tars a 2-1 advantage after one.
The second quarter remained tightly contested. Bell extended the lead with a woman-up goal off a Trautwein assist, and Christel added another to push Rollins ahead 4-2. Colorado Mesa answered on a player-up situation, trimming the margin to 4-3 at halftime.
The decisive stretch came in the third. Rollins exploded for five unanswered goals in the frame, beginning with a Trautwein player-up strike assisted by Nickel. Pierini and Gagnon followed in quick succession, and Mumford added a goal before Trautwein capped the run with another woman-up finish. The surge gave the Tars a commanding 9-3 lead heading into the final quarter.
Colorado Mesa mounted a late push in the fourth, scoring six goals in the period. However, Nickel halted early momentum with an unassisted tally, and Trautwein added her third of the night on another player-up opportunity. Pierini's next goal provided additional cushion as the Tars maintained control down the stretch.
Rollins will return to action on the road this Wednesday, February 18, at 7 p.m. at Saint Leo.
