Tars Walk Past Greyhounds in Season Opener

Rollins defeated Assumption 15-5 on Friday afternoon

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 13, 2026) - A close game early on turned into a blowout as Rollins defeated Assumption 15-5 on a beautiful afternoon at Alfond Stadium. The Tars now stand at 3-4 on the year, while the Greyhounds open their season with a loss.

After Noah Greenseid struck out two in the top of the first, he received two runs of support in the bottom half via passed ball and error from Assumption. Things got interesting in the top of the second though when three consecutive singles from the Greyhounds brought in a run.

Following two more strikeouts in the third, the Tars added a third run when Connor O'Sullivan walked with the bases loaded.

Again, Assumption continued to fight and found the scoreboard with a two-out RBI single in the fifth to make it 3-2. Mark Loubier was called on out of the bullpen, and escaped the inning without any further damage.

The bottom half of the inning was not pretty. Rollins strung together nine runs on only four hits while sending fourteen batters to the plate. The Tars' plate discipline was on full display as they drew six walks in the inning. By the time the inning was over, it was 12-2.

Assumption landed a two-run home run in the seventh to highlight the inaugural game of their 2026 season. The Tars returned the favor in the eighth though as Mason Elrod launched his first dinger of the year, a three-run shot to left.

Anthony Matteis pitched the final inning and recorded two strikeouts in his season debut.

Collin Hughes continued his torrid start to the season, going 3-3 with two runs, a double, one RBI and two walks. Connor O'sullivan was on base four times with two runs scored, and Joey Rubin had two hits and scored once while driving in one as well. A total of 13 Rollins hitters reached base safely in this one.

Greenseid punched out nine in his 5.2 innings of work while earning his first win of the year. Jack Haynes had three strikeouts in two innings, with Matteis adding his pair for 14 total. Conversely, Assumption walked 15 batters in the game.

The two teams will face off twice on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon from Alfond Stadium.
