HOUSTON, Texas (February 1, 2026) - Baseball wrapped up their opening weekend in Texas with a 10-4 loss to the $10 North Greenville Trailblazers on Sunday. The Tars move to 1-2 on the year, while the Trailblazers improve to 3-0.
North Greenville was on the board early with a two-run home run to left-center from CJ Dean in the top of the first. The Tars looked like they might have a chance to make things interesting in the bottom of the second, loading the bases, but a strikeout ended the threat.
After
Brody Meyers shut down the Trailblazers in the third, the Tars did manage to get on the board in their half. With one out,
Michael Furry doubled to left, and moved to third on a groundout.
Mauri Bejarano was next up, and delivered a single to right to halve the lead at 2-1.
From there, the Trailblazer offense took over, scoring the next seven runs across the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to go up 9-1.
Still, Rollins played hard and earned a couple of runs back on their end. In the sixth, Matthew Matteo launched a solo home run to right-center, his first of the year. Then, in the seventh, the Tars added two more runs on a groundout RBI from
Xavier Lopez and a
Joey Rubin run on a throwing error from short. North Greenville then added one more run in the eighth to make the final of 10-4.
Joey Rubin reached base three times with two hits and a walk in this one. The senior recorded multiple hits in all three games this weekend. Furry also reached safely three times.
Brody Meyers took the loss on the mound, despite allowing just one hit in three innings of work.
Ryan Taylor fired a scoreless ninth inning in his first action since 2024.
The Tars will be back on the diamond on Friday, February 6 when they host #14 West Florida at Alfond Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
