WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 17, 2026) - Women's soccer held a lead for the first half of play, but gave up a pair of goals in the second frame in a 2-1 loss to Eckerd on Saturday. The Tars now sit at 6-6-1 (3-4-1 SSC), while the Tritons remain unbeaten in conference play (4-0-4) and 7-2-6 overall.
Both teams came out of the gate firing, with each squad recording two shots on target in the first ten minutes. Both keepers were up to the task though, keeping the game scoreless. After a few minutes, Rollins finally broke through on their third attempt.
After the ball ping-ponged around midfield, it ended up at the feet of
Sophia Harutunian. She dropped a pass to
Emma McMurry, who had time to collect and then identify the streaking
Sophia Puccia on the far side of the box. McMurry delivered a magnificent cross that Puccia was able to one-touch into the net with authority, putting the Tars ahead.
Both teams added a couple more shots on goal before the halftime buzzer, but the scoreboard did not take any further action.
Coming out of the break, Eckerd dominated time of possession in the second half. In the 55th minute, a pass from Abby Knipp found Nell Doe in space, and she was able to beat
Lauren Mehos with her strike to tie the game.
Mehos continued to be on high alert as the Tritons kept up their attack. She was able to stop almost everything that came her way, using a pair of incredible leaping saves to keep the game tied.
However, in the 83rd minute, a cross was headed by a couple of players in the box, and on the third contact, it was Doe once more squaring the ball up with enough force to drop it over the outstretched hand of Mehos, putting Eckerd up 2-1.
Rollins had one final chance with less that two minutes to go. A corner from Harutunian was sent in to the box, but deflected right back to her. She lined herself up and unleashed a screamer of a shot from a tough angle, but Madi Winn made a terrific sprawling save to stop the shot and clinch the game.
Eckerd outshot Rollins 20-10 (12-5 on goal) and dominated corners by the count of 14-3. Mehos had 10 saves in the loss.
Prior to the game, the coaching staff recognized six seniors for their hard work and dedication to Rollins soccer:
Lauren Mehos,
Carolina Ameglio,
Allie Adams,
Harmoni Thomas,
Victoria Pou Varona, and
Gabby Boyd.
The Tars next matchup is on the road at #1 ranked Florida Tech on Wednesday, October 21. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm in Melbourne.
