Tars Battle Eagles in Tuesday Night Road Match

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Tars battled Embry-Riddle on the road Monday night, taking the second set before the Eagles pulled away over the final two frames to earn the 3-1 victory (23-25, 25-20, 19-25, 19-25).

Jenna Garza dished out 12 assists to go along with nine digs and two aces, while Molly Morris added 11 assists. Sarah Seabrooke finished with seven digs, with Hazelett adding seven of her own.

Neither side created much separation to begin the night, trading points through the early stages before Grange and Hazelett helped the Tars work their way in front, an ace from Aryanna Spainhower extending it to 6-4.

The Eagles answered to take their first lead at 7-6, but Remington Doggett quickly pulled Rollins even before Goodloe put the Tars back in front at 9-8. Embry-Riddle responded with three straight, eventually building its advantage to 17-11.

Grange and Doggett helped chip into the deficit, but the Eagles continued to hold the advantage, stretching the lead to 22-14. Rollins refused to go quietly.

Goodloe and Repass teamed up for a block before another Eagle service error kept the Tars alive. Scuteri and Goodloe added another rejection at the net; Scuteri followed with a kill, and Hazelett added another before Morgan Coughlin stepped to the service line and delivered an ace to make it 24-20.

Hazelett struck again and another Eagle attack error pulled Rollins all the way back within two at 24-22, forcing an Embry-Riddle timeout. The Eagles finally escaped the late push, taking the opener, 25-23.

Rollins carried the late energy into the second.

Repass was in on back-to-back blocks to open the frame before adding a kill of her own, and Garza followed with an ace to quickly give the Tars a 4-0 advantage. Repass struck again before Goodloe and three straight kills from Hazelett helped stretch the lead to 9-4.

The Eagles worked their way back into the set, cutting the deficit to one before eventually pulling even at 13. Repass answered immediately with a kill, and Lelolai Paulino-Dinzey followed with an ace to restore the two-point advantage.

After Embry-Riddle pulled within one again, the Tars took control at the net. Scuteri and Goodloe teamed up for a block before Scuteri found the floor. Scuteri and Doggett then combined for another rejection; Doggett added a kill, and the pair teamed up for one more block to cap a 5-0 Rollins run and push the lead to 20-14.

The Eagles briefly slowed the run, but Scuteri answered with a solo block before Seabrooke got in on the offense with a dig kill to make it 22-16. An Embry-Riddle service error eventually brought up set point before Repass slammed the door with her fourth kill of the frame, 25-20, evening the match at one set apiece.

The third opened as another back-and-forth battle. Goodloe put Rollins on the board first before Scuteri and Grange helped the Tars stay in front early. Neither side could gain much ground, with the teams trading the advantage throughout the opening half of the frame.

A successful Rollins challenge helped turn the tide midway through the set, with Scuteri following with a kill before another Eagle error gave the Tars a 14-12 advantage. Embry-Riddle answered to reclaim the lead, but Grange and Doggett responded on consecutive Rollins points to keep the Tars in front, 17-16.

Hazelett later put Rollins ahead 19-17, but the Eagles flipped the set from there. Embry-Riddle rattled off eight unanswered points to close the frame, turning the two-point Rollins advantage into a 25-19 victory and taking a 2-1 lead in the match.

Rollins came out swinging in the fourth, with Grange putting down the opening point before Repass and Goodloe helped the Tars build an early 4-2 edge.

The Eagles answered to move in front, but Scuteri tied things at five before Grange helped Rollins regain an 8-6 advantage. Embry-Riddle responded again, taking a 12-9 lead, but the Tars battled right back.

Repass delivered a solo block before teaming up with Goodloe for another rejection. Goodloe followed with a kill, and Garza capped the four-point run with an ace to give Rollins the lead back at 13-12.

Embry-Riddle answered with a run of its own, scoring seven straight to move ahead, 19-13. Repass stopped the surge with a kill before the Tars made one more push, using three straight Eagle attack errors, including a Goodloe-Scuteri block, to pull within three at 20-17.

Hazelett later found the floor to make it 22-19, but Embry-Riddle closed out the final three points, taking the fourth, 25-19, and the match, 3-1.
