Tars and Bucs Draw in Scrappy Affair

Rollins and Barry tied 2-2 on Saturday night

WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 27, 2025) - Rollins was able to equalize twice and earn a 2-2 draw against visiting Barry on Saturday in Winter Park. The Tars move to 3-2-2 (0-1-1 SSC) on the year while the Buccaneers now stand at 2-0-3 (1-0-1 SSC).

The two long-time rivals have a very even history, with Rollins holding a small 23-22-4 advantage in the all-time series. Recently, when the two teams have matched up, fireworks have gone off. Tonight was no different.

The first 37 minutes of the game saw a physical affair with plenty of fouls, players hitting the turf, and aggressive play on both sides from both teams. It took a while, but Barry finally cracked the scoring open when Lucas Costa found himself in open space as the Tar defense had a hiccup on defense. He blasted a shot fro about 25 yards out to the far corner of the net, making it 1-0.

With just one minute remaining in the first half, Rollins responded. Kaden Foreman took the ball towards the baseline, and crossed it in to the box. From there, Justin Nelson one-touched a pass to Pablo Herrero who had a wide-open net to shoot into. His second goal of the year tied the game right before break.

Another defensive miscue helped Barry take the lead again in the second half. On a seemingly innocent forward pass into the Tars zone, keeper Max Walker found himself well outside of the box. His attempt to clear the ball was blocked by Julien Laborde, who was able to recover the loose ball and score it.

The Tars stayed aggressive, and had a great chance to score in the 77th minute. However, a shot from Herrero was stopped by a sliding Bucs defender, but he was called for a handball. This led to a penalty kick, and Justin Nelson came through with a firm strike to the bottom right of the net.

The final true chance came with just two minutes to play. Nick Memmelaar played into space, and unleashed a screamer from 20 yards out that hit the right woodwork and bounced away.

Next up for the Tars is another home match. They will host the Tampa Spartans on Wednesday, October 1 at 6:00 pm in Winter Park.
