Wilson Goes Deep Twice in Wild Win

Rollins defeated Saint Leo 13-11 on Tuesday evening

SAINT LEO, Fla. (April 8, 2025) - Baseball locked in their third straight win with a wild 13-11 victory at Saint Leo in a non-SSC matchup on Tuesday. The win moves the Tars to 24-10 on the year, while the Lions fall to 14-22.

It did not take long for Rollins to get the scoring started. With two outs, the Tars rattled off five straight hits including a two run bomb from Mason Wilson that scored he and Jeslyn Whitehead. Corey Zientek added an RBI double and Jimmy Thies drove in a run with a single to make it 4-0.

The Lions picked up two runs in the fourth to halve the lead, taking advantage of an error and a wild pitch from the Tars. They added three more runs in the sixth as the Rollins pitchers struggled with control, issuing three walks, hitting a batter, and throwing two wild pitches, which led to a 5-4 lead for Saint Leo.

To say the Tars stormed back in their next at bat is putting it lightly. David Pereira started the party with an RBI single, and was followed immediately by a Michael Furry bunt single that scored a second run. After Joey Rubin walked to load the bases, Whitehead delivered a double to left that scored two. Next up was Wilson who stayed hot with the bat, smoking a hit through the left side for the final run of the inning, which made the score 10-5.

Saint Leo managed to hang around, plating three unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh to creep within two at 10-8.

Staying with the scoring theme, it was Rubin delivering a big hit, launching a double to left center in the eighth inning that scored Pereira and Stephen Deans, extending the lead to 12-8.

After Douglas Rojas tossed a scoreless frame, Wilson then led off the ninth with a solo missile down the left field line, giving him a second multi-home run game this season.

The bottom of the ninth was no cake walk. An error, single, and three-run home run had the Lions within two in their final at bat. With a man on first and the tying run at the plate with two outs, AJ Seymour was called on out of the bullpen to save the game. He did just that, striking out the final batter to lock in the win.

Wilson was the star of the day, going 3-5 with two home runs and five RBI. Every Rollins starter recorded at least one hit and one run in the game. They totaled 14 hits, six of which went for extra bases.

The biggest series of the season awaits the Tars as they face the #1 University of Tampa Spartans in Tampa this weekend. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 6:00 pm on April 11.
