TAMPA, Fla. (April 11, 2025) - The #1 Tampa Spartans showed why they are considered one of the top teams in the country, taking down the Rollins Tars by a score fo 15-2. The loss moves Rollins to 24-11 overall with a 13-6 record in the SSC. The Spartans improve to 30-6, 14-2 SSC.
The series opener between the two ranked squads got off to fast start for Tampa as they scored two in their first at bat on a home run. They also added two in the third and three in the fifth. Meanwhile, Rollins was able to put runners on base in four of the first five frames, but could not bring any of them in.
Rollins' first real chance came in the seventh when they loaded the bases with two outs, but a groundball ended the threat. Tampa's response was to score six runs in the bottom half of the inning to go up 15-2.
The Tars avoided the shutout when Dalton Pzyer launched a two-run home run in the eighth inning, scoring himself and
Ethan Beal.
Rollins recorded ten hits in the loss, but also stranded nine runners. Pyzer had a solid day at the plate, going 3-4 overall.
Jeslyn Whitehead went 0-4 from the three-hole; it is the first time this season that he did not reach base safely.
The two teams will compete in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 12 to wrap up the series. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
