WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 17, 2025) - The baseball team bounced back from last weekend in a huge way, showcasing their offensive prowess in a 22-3 blowout of the visiting Eckerd Tritons on Thursday. The win moves Rollins to 25-13 on the year with a 14-8 record in the SSC. The Tritons fall to 10-28, 5-14 SSC.
After
Tyler Toro stranded two runners in the top of the first,
Mason Wilson picked up his pitcher with a three-run opposite field home run that scored himself,
Jeslyn Whitehead, and
Joey Rubin.
Rollins added two more runs in the third on a
Corey Zientek sac fly and a
Rob Buckley solo shot to deep right to make the score 5-0.
Toro recorded two strikeouts in the fourth, and was rewarded with seven more runs from his offense in the bottom of the frame. Wilson started the party with a bases clearing double, and was driven in by
Dalton Pyzer. After a pitching change,
Jimmy Thies launched a no-doubt home run to left that scored three runs, making it 12-0.
Zientek added a solo bomb in the sixth, putting Rollins on top by a baker's dozen.
The Tritons avoided the shutout with a two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning. Rollins had the instant response thanks to
Stephen Deans, who ripped a single to center to plate Whitehead and
David Pereira.
The eighth inning was another wild one as the Tars scored another touchdown plus the extra point. Four straight hits from Pereira, Whitehead, Deans, and
Kyle Singer added three runs to the ledger. After another pitching change, Zientek took the first pitch he saw way out to left field for his second dinger of the game, giving Rollins a season high 22 runs.
Some fun notes about this one:
- Twelve different Tars scored a run in the game, led by Whitehead, who touched home four times.
- Twelve different Tars recorded at least one hit, with Zientek and Whitehead each connecting three times.
- Eight different Tars had an RBI, including five players with multiple runs driven in. Wilson had six in the game, giving him an SSC-best 56 on the season. He is also tied for the conference lead in home runs with twelve.
- Zientek is the third Tar to record a multi-home run game this season, joining Wilson and
Michael Furry.
-
Tyler Toro was sensational on the mound, earning a quality start with six innings, three hits, zero runs, three walks, and three strikeouts.
