WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 18, 2025) – The Rollins baseball team swept a doubleheader with visiting Eckerd on Friday to complete the series sweep, winning 8-4 and 14-3 in seven innings. The Tars are now 27-13 overall, 16-8 in SSC play, while the Tritons fall to 10-30, 5-16 in conference games.
Game 1 – Rollins 8, Eckerd 4
Angelo Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI, while
Michael Furry and
Rob Buckley each finished 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.
Nick Berger (9-2) went five innings to earn the win, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and no walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
- Michael Furry made the defensive play of the year, leaping high over the fence in right-center to rob a home run in the top of the first inning. The Tars then took an early lead on a two-out RBI single from Mason Wilson that plated Joey Rubin with the game's first run.
Second Inning
- Ramirez doubled home Buckley to make it 2-0 and Furry followed up with a three-run homer to extend the lead to 5-0.
Third Inning
- Another three-run home run, this one from Buckley, pushed the Rollins lead to 8-0 in the third inning.
Ninth Inning
- Eckerd chipped away with a run in the fourth and fifth and two more in the sixth, but the Rollins pitching staff kept the lead at four as Connor Hensley and AJ Seymour pitched the final four innings to secure the 8-4 win.
Game 2 – Rollins 14, Eckerd 3 (7 innings)
In game two, Rubin went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, two runs scored, and an RBI, while
Corey Zientek was 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk, two runs scored, and three RBIs. Buckley went 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs, and Wilson finished 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, three runs scored, and an RBI.
Edward Berry (1-2) got the win, allowing three runs on nine hits in five innings, striking out four and issuing no free passes.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
- Rollins wasted no time jumping in front in this one, sending 12 batters to the plate in the first inning.
- Jeslyn Whitehead singled home Furry to start the scoring, followed by a two-run single from Dalton Pyzer.
- An RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Zientek made it 4-0, and a two-run single from Stephen Deans pushed the lead to 6-0.
- Rubin singled home David Pereira to make it 7-0, and Deans then scored on a pickoff rundown to give the Blue and Gold an 8-0 lead after one inning.
Fourth Inning
- After Eckerd plated three runs in the third, the Tars answered back an inning later with a four-spot in the fourth.
- Wilson doubled home Rubin to give Rollins a 9-3 lead, and a Zientek RBI single that knocked in Wilson made it 10-3.
- Buckley then launched his second home run of the doubleheader to lift the lead to 13-3.
Sixth Inning
- An RBI triple from Zientek gave the Tars an 11-run advantage at 14-3 in the sixth.
Seventh Inning
- Ryan Murphy closed out the contest with two scoreless innings, giving Rollins a 14-3 win in seven innings thanks to the SSC's getaway rule.

The Tars will travel to Colorado next weekend for a three-game series with 13th-ranked Colorado Mesa. The first game of the set is scheduled for Friday, April 25th at 8 PM EDT (6 PM local).
