No. 18 Tars Wrap Up Season at No. 8 Saint Leo

Rollins dropped the contest to the Lions, 21-11

SAINT LEO, Fla. (April 15, 2025) – The 18th-ranked Rollins women's lacrosse team closed out the 2025 season on Tuesday with a 21-11 defeat at No. 8 Saint Leo. The Tars finish the year with an 8-8 record, 1-6 in SSC play, while the Lions go to 12-5 overall, 3-4 in conference games.
 
Sydney Nickel led the Tars with three goals while Madison McGarry tallied two goals and two assists. Delaney Hudson added a pair of goals and an assist, while Carsyn Christel tallied two goals. Angelina Vitale (7-4) made five saves on 26 shots in 57 minutes of action in the cage.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
  • Saint Leo jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Nickel got the Tars on the board at the 8:35 mark of the first quarter.
  • After another Lions goal, Hudson tallied her first of the game to make it 4-2 with 3:33 to play in the period.
  • SLU added a late goal to take a 5-2 lead to the second quarter.
Second Quarter
  • Christel scored less than two minutes into the second to cut the deficit to 5-3, but Saint Leo answered with a goal a few minutes later.
  • Rollins got back within two on Christel's second goal, but the Lions went on a 5-0 run over the next seven minutes to take an 11-4 lead.
  • Nickel scored her second of the contest four seconds before halftime to make it 11-5.
Third Quarter
  • Aleksa Allen opened the scoring in the third before Saint Leo scored three straight to go up 14-6.
  • McGarry scored the next goal and then assisted on Abigail DeGroat's marker that cut the deficit to 14-8.
  • After a Saint Leo goal, McGarry scored again to keep the margin at six goals (15-9).
  • The Lions scored in the final 30 seconds of the third to go up 16-9 heading to the fourth period.
Fourth Quarter
  • Saint Leo scored the first three goals of the fourth to widen the gap to 19-9.
  • Hudson and Nickel both scored in the final eight minutes of the game, while the Lions also tallied a pair, giving Saint Leo a 21-11 win.
