WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 8, 2025) – The Rollins softball team swept a doubleheader with visiting Felician on Saturday, winning both games in five innings, 8-0 and 11-1. The Tars are now 16-5 on the year, while the Golden Falcons drop to 3-11.
Game 1 – Rollins 8, Felician 0 (5 innings)
Brianna Perantoni went 2-for-3 with a run scored while
Brie Michelli was 1-for-2 with a walk, home run, two runs scored, and three RBIs.
Emily MacMullen (2-3) tossed the five-inning complete game shutout, surrendering one hit and striking out eight.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Third Inning
- Cambrie Todd started a rally with a one-out hit by pitch, and Emma Gipple followed by reaching on an error, moving Todd to second.
- Perantoni then reached on a bunt single, with all three runners advancing a base on another error, scoring pinch runner Lucy McLogan with the first run of the ballgame.
- Brooke Theisen then knocked in Gipple with an infield single to make it 2-0.
- Michelli delivered the big blow with a three-run home run to put the lead at 5-0 Tars.
Fourth Inning
- Jenna Borkey tacked on another run with a leadoff home run in the fourth, giving the Blue and Gold a 6-0 lead.
Fifth Inning
- Michelli drew a one-out walk in the fifth, which set the table for pinch hitter Taylor Hartman, who crushed a walk-off two-run home run to left, ending the game at 8-0 via the eight-run rule.
Game 2 – Rollins 11, Felician 1 (5 innings)
In the second game, Theisen went 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored, while
Riley Gardner was 2-for-2 with a walk, a run scored, and three RBIs.
Grace Hautzinger (3-2) got the win, allowing one run on one hit in three innings, walking one and striking out two.
Rachel Matthiesen and
Jules Raimondi combined to hurl two shutout innings of relief, giving up just one hit and one walk with one strikeout between the two of them.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
- Rollins sent 10 batters to the plate in the first inning, plating five runs.
- Perantoni led off with a single and promptly stole second.
- Theisen then singled, scoring Perantoni.
- After Michelli singled, Madi Carr walked to load the bases.
- Two batters later, Marisa Edevane scored Theisen on a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
- Borkey followed that with an RBI double, plating Michelli to increase the lead to 3-0.
- Gardner then singled through the left side, scoring both Carr and Borkey, giving Rollins a 5-0 edge.
Second Inning
- Felician got its only run of the day with a leadoff home run in the second, cutting the lead to 5-1.
- The Blue and Gold answered with three runs in the home half of the inning, beginning with a leadoff single from Theisen.
- After Michelli reached on a fielder's choice and stole second, Carr doubled her home to make it a 6-1 game.
- Hartman then singled, moving Carr to third.
- Edevane was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Borkey then drew a four-pitch walk to force home Carr, making it 7-1.
- Gardner followed up with a base hit to score Hartman, pushing the lead to 8-1.
Third Inning
- Theisen led off the third inning with a double; she moved to third on a one-out single from Carr.
- Hartman then lifted a fly ball to left that was deep enough to score Theisen, adding to the Tars' lead, making it 9-1.
Fourth Inning
- Gardner started the fourth with a walk and Kaeli Zahradnik followed with a bunt single.
- Two batters later, Monica Kading singled, loading the bases with one out.
- After a strikeout, Chloe Bauer delivered a pinch-hit two-run single, scoring Gardner and Zahradnik, building the lead to 11-1.
Fifth Inning
- After Matthiesen got the first out of the fifth, Raimondi came on to record the final two outs, securing the 11-1 victory.
