Rollins travels to Nova Southeastern for a three-game series this weekend

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 11, 2025) – The Rollins softball team swept a doubleheader with visiting Caldwell on Tuesday, winning 2-0 and 9-1 in five innings. The Tars are now 18-5 on the year, while the Cougars drop to 0-7.

Game 1 – Rollins 2, Caldwell 0

Brianna Perantoni went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI while Brie Michelli was 2-for-3 with a double. Reese Twiggs (7-0) was nearly unhittable in the circle, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out five in a complete game shutout.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
  • Perantoni led off the home half of the first with a base hit and moved to second on a wild pitch.
  • Brooke Theisen then laced a double to score Perantoni with the first run of the game.
Second Inning
  • Kaeli Zahradnik reached on a one-out single and moved to second on the play as Rachel Matthiesen was thrown out trying to advance to third.
  • Perantoni followed with a base hit up the middle that scored Zahradnik, making it a 2-0 game.
Seventh Inning
  • Twiggs didn't need any more run support, as she held the Cougars hitless until the seventh inning.
  • Caldwell did break up the no-hitter with a leadoff single in the seventh, but Twiggs set down the next three batters in order to preserve the 2-0 shutout.

Game 2 – Rollins 9, Caldwell 1 (5 innings)

In the second game, Perantoni was 4-for-4 with a stolen base, two RBIs, and two runs scored, while Theisen was 2-for-2 with a stolen base, three RBIs, and a run scored. Camila Leon-Blanco (5-0) gave up one run on five hits in four innings of work, striking out five.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
  • Perantoni again led off with a base hit, and Theisen followed with a single to put two on with no outs.
  • Two batters later, Madi Carr doubled to score both runners, putting the Tars up 2-0.
Second Inning
  • Rachel Matthiesen, Emma Gipple, and Perantoni recorded three straight singles to load the bases with one out in the second.
  • Theisen knocked in Matthiesen with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.
Third Inning
  • After Caldwell got on the board in the top of the third, the Tars answered back in the home half.
  • Jenna Borkey reached on a bunt single and stole second.
  • Two batters later, Borkey stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher, pushing the lead to 4-1.
Fourth Inning
  • Gipple led off the fourth with an infield single, and pinch runner Lucy McLogan immediately stole second.
  • Perantoni then singled, moving McLogan to third, and Perantoni wasted no time swiping second.
  • Theisen delivered her second sacrifice fly of the game, scoring McLogan and moving Perantoni to third.
  • Two pitches late, Perantoni scampered home on a wild pitch to make it 6-1 Tars.
