Tars Win Fourth Straight

Rollins defeated Grand Valley State 4-3 on Monday afternoon

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 3, 2025) - Women's tennis continued their recent hot streak with a tough 4-3 win against Grand Valley State on Monday. The Tars improve to 5-3 on the year while the Lakers drop to 5-2.

Grand Valley jumped out to an early lead by taking the first two doubles matches to earn the point. They scored victories on one and three, but the Tars avoided the clean sweep as Amina Taibi/Nina Mitrofanova won on two with a 6-4 effort.

Taibi got the Tars on the board with her singles win on number two. She worked her way to a clean 6-3, 6-3 win. The Lakers reclaimed the advantage with a win on four, but Stella Fruijtier provided a 6-2, 6-2 victory on six to knot the score at two each.

Nancy Liu, who earlier in the day was named the SSC Player of the Week, showed why with a tough 7-5, 6-3 win on the featured court. The Lakers weren't going to go down without a fight though, and tied the match for a third time with a win on court three.

That put all eyes on court five where Amina Abdulloeva was in a tight one against Ipek Sakiroglu, Abdulloeva jumped out to the early lead with a 6-4 win in set one, but Sakiroglu battled for a 7-5 win in set two, setting the table for a dramatic third set. In the extra frame, the freshman handled business, winning 6-2 and earning the win for the Tars.

It will be a short rest for Rollins as they are headed back to the USTA National Campus on Tuesday for a match against Fresno Pacific. First serve is set for 1:00 pm.
