Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Tars Take Thriller From Lakers

Rollins defeated Grand Valley State 4-3 on Monday

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 3, 2025) - Men's tennis found themselves back in the win column on Monday following an exciting 4-3 win over Grand Valley State. The Tars improve to 7-3 on the year, and the Lakers drop to 6-2.

Rollins started things off with wins on two of three doubles courts, earning the first point of the match. Luke Quaynor/Richard Stoiberer came through on court one, but the Lakers answered with a 6-3 win on three. The action on court two needed an extra set point, but Nico de Giacomo/Fabian Gusic were up to the task with a 7-5 win.

Grand Valley State got the point back with a win on one, and then took a lead with a victory on five. Gusic set things right for Rollins with his work on two, where he claimed a 6-1, 6-3 match.

Stoiberer has been the Tars' hottest singles player as of late, and his streak continued with a 6-4, 6-1 win on court four. It is the third win in a row for the Austrian, and sixth overall this season.

The match was then clinched on number three when de Giacomo used three sets to dispatch his opponent 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

Grand Valley earned one more point on number six where Ignasi Garros worked past Phillip McMurray 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

"What a battle today," observed head coach Jay Friedman. "Nico really gutted it out, and huge respect to Phil for getting the second set and not letting the momentum shift in their favor down the stretch. Certainly a quick turnaround and looking forward to our match with Fresno Pacific tomorrow."

Rollins will return to the USTA National Campus in less than 24 hours for their match against Fresno Pacific. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
