Big Inning Spoils Tars Win Streak

BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 22, 2025) - Rollins fell at the hands of the Lynn Fighting Knights losing grip of an early lead thanks to a seven run fifth inning by the opposition. The Tars loss halts their winning streak at six games and is just the second loss in Sunshine State Conference play.

Rollins grabbed the lead in the fourth inning, thanks in large part to the Lynn pitching staff. Lynn had gone in front in the bottom of the second thanks to a solo home run, but the Fighting Knights would give the lead right back shortly thereafter. Three of the first four batters reach base by way of walks or a hit by pitch, and a two-out error kept the inning alive. The costly error also allowed for two runs to score, on what would have been simply an RBI fielder's choice by Angelo Ramirez. Instead, Ramirez found himself standing on third base and after two walks and with the Tars now in the lead 2-1, Jeslyn Whitehead stepped up to the dish with no intentions of stopping the rally. The graduate senior's two-run single extended the lead to 4-1, where the score remained after four complete.

An RBI single by Angelo Ramirez pushed the Tars out in front 5-1 in the top of the fifth, but the lead was short lived. The first six Fighting Knights reached base in the bottom of the fifth and when the inning was all said and done, Lynn had batted around and score seven runs. The Fighting Knights added two more in the bottom of the sixth to double up the Tars 10-5.

But Rollins would not go down without a fight. A Chris Sparber single trimmed the Lynn lead to 10-6 in the eighth, but the Fighting Knights answered back with two more runs of their own, again doubling up the Tars, 12-6.

Still, Rollins stayed resilient. Back-to-back-to-back RBI singles by the top of the lineup in Furry, Rubin and Whitehead pulled the Tars within three. After a walk loaded the bases with two outs, Rob Buckley was also issued a free pass to make things even tighter. But as luck would have it, the 12-10 deficit was as close as the Tars would get, stranding the bases loaded.

Nick Berger picked up the loss for the Tars, who will look to avenge Saturday's loss in Sunday's series finale. First pitch from Boca Raton will take place at 12pm.
