BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 23, 2025) - After falling behind 4-0, Rollins scored eight unanswered runs to capture the win and the series against Lynn on Sunday. The victory moves the sixteenth-ranked Tars to 20-7 on the year with a 10-2 record against SSC foes. The Fighting Knights drop to 16-12 overall.
Lynn was the first team on the board with a solo home run from Shawn Dougherty in the second. They padded their lead in the third thanks to three runs on three hits, including an RBI double from Dougherty.
Rollins has made a habit of playing from behind this season, and Sunday was no different.
Mason Wilson got things started in the fourth with a leadoff double. After moving to third on a groundout, he was brought home by a double from
Jimmy Thies.
The Knights made a pitching change in the fifth inning, and Rollins made them pay.
Michael Furry walked with one out, and then took three bases on a pair of wild pitches to make the lead 4-2.
Joey Rubin followed with a walk and moved to second on a
Jeslyn Whitehead single. Wilson then delivered another double to score Rubin. On the next play,
Dalton Pyzer struck out swinging at a ball in the dirt. As the catcher threw down to first to complete the strikeout, Whitehead broke from third and slide in safely at home to tie the game.
Douglas Rojas took over for
Ryan Murphy on the mound in the fifth, and worked out of a bases loaded jam to keep the game knotted. Rollins had runners in scoring position in both the sixth and seventh innings, but could not score. Meanwhile, Rojas kept the Knights off the board himself, buying enough time for the offense to strike again.
Rubin led off the eighth with a walk, and ceded his spot on first to
David Pereira. A single from Whitehead moved him to third, and a sac fly to center from Wilson brought Pereira in for the 5-4 lead.
AJ Seymour was called on to close things down. He worked around a single and a walk in the eighth with a double play ball to maintain the lead. He then got a nice boost of insurance from his offense in the ninth.
Thies led off with a single, and moved to third following a sac bunt and a groundout. With two outs, the Tars went walk, steal, single, single, single to add three runs to their total. Seymour then retired the Knights in the ninth to earn his third save of the year.
Rojas earned the win with three innings of relief. On offense, Whitehead tallied five hits in six at bats, scoring once and driving in another while also stealing two bags. Wilson was good for three hits, a run, and three RBI.
Next up for the Tars is another SSC series, this time against the Florida Tech Panthers in Melbourne. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 5:00 pm on Friday, March 28.
