PENSACOLA, Fla. (February 7, 2025) - Baseball dropped the first game of their road series at West Florida 8-2 on Friday night. The loss moved Rollins to 2-2 on the year, while the Argonauts improve to 2-2.
West Florida struck early in the first, using a pair of walks and a Ben Maskin triple to take a 2-0 lead.
Rollins threatened in the third with two men on, a strikeout and a groundout nipped the threat in the bud. West Florida added to their lead in the bottom half, using a double, two singles, a sac bunt, and a walk to chase starter
Bennett Durkin from the mound.
Tyler Toro was called on from the bullpen, and allowed a pair of runs on a single and a sac fly that made the score 5-0.
The Tars once again looked to get back in the game in the sixth when
Jeslyn Whitehead led off with a double. Coupled with a
Dalton Pyzer walk, Rollins saw two men on with no outs. The next three hitters were all put out though, quelling the danger once more.
The highlight of the night for Rollins came in the seventh when
Michael Furry smashed a solo home run to left field for his first dinger of the season. They would also add a run in the eighth when
Corey Zientek drove in Pyzer with a groundball.
West Florida added three runs in the eighth on a home run to make the final of 8-2.
Rollins collected eight hits on the night, including two each from Pyzer and
Mason Wilson. The glaring issue was stranding eight runners on base.
The two teams will wrap the series on Saturday with a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 2:00 PM eastern.
