SAINT LEO, Fla. (February 21, 2025) - Rollins saw their modest three-game win streak snapped on Friday after dropping the series opener against Saint Leo by a score of 11-3. The Tars now stand at 5-3 (3-1 SSC), while the Lions improve to 8-6 (1-3 SSC).
After a scoreless first inning, Rollins struck first when
Kaeli Zahradnik sent a pitch over the right field fence for her first home run of the year. One inning later, a wild pitch brought home
Brooke Theisen, followed immediately by a an RBI groundout from
Brie Michelli to make it a 3-0 game.
The Lions finally broke through against starter
Grace Hautzinger in the bottom of the third, tagging her for three runs on four hits to tie the game.
Rollins was set down in order in the top of the fourth, but the Lions continued to create runs with a four-spot in the fourth. A pair of two-out, two-run singles had Saint Leo up 7-3.
The home team added four more runs in their final two at bats, including two hit batters with the bases loaded to make the final of 11-3, which ended the game early due to mercy rule.
Theisen and
Madi Carr each had two hits to lead the offense. Hautzinger suffered the loss in the circle, her first of her young career.
The two teams will wrap up the series on Saturday, with a doubleheader beginning at noon in Saint Leo.
