Tars Sweep Bobcats

Rollins defeated Bates 7-0 on Thursday

ORLANDO, Fla. (February 20, 2024) - The Tars got back to their winning ways on Thursday afternoon, sweeping visiting Bates College 7-0 in a match played at USTA's National Campus.

In a narrow #1 Doubles match, Polina Vlasova and Nancy Liu grabbed a 7-5 tiebreaking victory. Meanwhile, the duo of Amina Abdulloeva and Amina Taibi made quick work of their opponent, winning 6-2 in #2 Doubles. Milla Falster and Stella Fruijtier put the finishing touches on the Bobcats winning 6-3, helping the Tars win all three doubles matches and therefore taking home the point.

On the solo courts, the tune would stay the same. #1 Singles went the way of Liu, who dominated on her way to a 6-2, 6-0 victory in under an hour. Amina Taibi kept the momentum rolling. The junior, playing in Singles #2 for the first time all season, won convincingly, 6-2, 6-1. On the third singles court, Vlasova picked up her first win of the season in resilient fashion. After winning the first set handily, Vlasova fell behind 0-4 in set number two. But the graduate student would not be denied. Vlasova displayed her experience and mental toughness, coming all the way back to snatch the set and the match.

Falster had quite the comeback of her own in Singles #4. Trailing 0-5 in the first set, Falster rattled off seven straight game victories to win 7-5. The journey was equally treacherous in set number two as the junior once again dug herself a hole, falling behind 0-4. And yet, Falster found a way to do it again. In a match that lasted over two hours, Falster prevailed; 7-5, 6-4 to secure another singles point. #5 Singles went the way of the Tars as well with Nina Mitrofanova who pulled out a grueling 7-6 (3), 6-4 victory in a match that lasted nearly three hours. Finally, on singles court #6, Stella Fruijtier got it done in straight sets winning 6-2, 6-0 to secure her second win of the season and a clean sweep for the Tars.

Next up for Rollins will be the University of Charleston (WV). Coming in with an undefeated, 7-0 record, the Golden Eagles will be a great test for the ladies as they prepare for the rest of their season. The match is set to begin at 1pm on Tuesday, Februyary 25 and will once again be played at the USTA National Campus. For coverage all season long, check out RollinsSports.com.
