Tars Complete Sweep of Greyhounds

Rollins defeated Assumption 11-2 on Sunday

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 16, 2025) - Baseball completed the sweep of the visiting Assumption Greyhounds on Sunday, cruising to an 11-2 victory. The Tars improve to 6-3 on the year while the Greyhounds fall to 0-3.

Each team had an early chance to score with the bases loaded, but no runs came across in the first two innings. The Tars were able to break through in the third and begin their fourth straight game with double digit runs. Mason Wilson tripled to right, and was instantly brought home on a Dalton Pyzer single. Two batters later, Rob Buckley singled, and both runners came around to score on a Chris Sparber double.

Assumption made it a game in the fifth with three base hits off Rollins starter Nick Berger. The last of the three brought in the second run of the inning, putting the Greyhounds down just one. Corey Zientek had something to say about that, and soon got one run back with his world-class speed. First he beat out an infield single, then stole second, moved to third on a passed ball, and scored on a wild pitch to make the score 4-2.

In the sixth, Berger tallied two more strikeouts, wrapping up his outing in style. He ended with a line of six innings, four hits, two runs, two walks and seven strikeouts.

Rollins scored multiple runs in the sixth on a Zientek single and a Rob Buckley groundout. They added three more in the seventh when a Zientek flyball to left got caught in the wind, and landed between two Greyhound fielders, clearing the bases. The scoring wrapped up in the eighth when Jeslyn Whitehead doubled home Michael Furry and Sparber to make the final of 11-2.

Ryan Murphy tossed 1.1 scoreless in the seventh and eighth, while Blake Tipmore tallied the final five outs, including a pair of strikeouts.

Zientek was 3-5 with four RBI in the game. Pyzer and Sparber each reached four times via two hits and two walks, and Whitehead added two more hits to his team-high total with two RBI.

Next up for the Tars is a mid-week, non-SSC matchup against Florida Tech. The two teams will play Tuesday, February 18 at 2:00 pm in Winter Park.
