WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 18, 2025) – The Rollins baseball team won its fifth straight contest on Tuesday, knocking off Florida Tech in a non-conference clash, 7-3. The Tars are now 7-3 on the season, while the Panthers drop to 7-6.
Jimmy Thies went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, while
Jeslyn Whitehead was 4-for-5 with a double and a run scored.
Dalton Pyzer finished 2-for-4 with a double, home run, walk, two runs scored, and three RBIs.
Jackson Edelman (2-0) got the win on a bullpen day for the Tars, allowing one run on two hits in 1.2 innings, walking one and striking out two. Six Rollins relievers combined to surrender just two runs (one earned) on six hits over the remaining 7.1 innings, striking out six while walking just one.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
- After Florida Tech plated a run in the top half of the first, the Tars responded with two runs in the home half.
- Michael Furry led off with a single and moved to third on Whitehead's one-out double.
- Two batters later, Pyzer delivered a two-out, two-run double to put Rollins in front, 2-1.
Third Inning
- Mason Wilson made it 3-1 with a one-out solo home run in the third inning.
- Later in the inning, Thies drove home two more runs with a two-out base hit to extend the lead to 5-1.
Fifth Inning
- The Panthers cut the deficit to 5-2 in the top of the fifth, but Rollins immediately answered in the bottom of the inning.
- Corey Zientek drew a one-out walk and came around to score on a two-out double from Thies, pushing the lead to 6-2.
Seventh Inning
- Florida Tech got back within three with a run in the seventh, but Pyzer quickly answered, leading off the bottom of the inning with a solo home run to make it 7-3.
Ninth Inning
- Bennett Durkin worked around a hit by pitch and single to open the ninth, inducing a double play and a groundout to close the door, securing the 7-3 win.
