Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Fourth Quarter Rally Falls Just Short

Lynn defeated Rollins 65-62 on Saturday afternoon

BOCA RATON, Fla. (February 15, 2025) - Women's basketball was one shot away from an epic comeback, but fell just shy in their 65-62 loss to Lynn on Saturday. The Tars fall to 8-15 overall and 3-13 in SSC play. The fighting Knights improve to 13-11, 7-10 SSC.

After falling behind early in the first, an Emily McIntosh three put Rollins ahead 10-9 with four minutes to play in the opening period. Jess Knight led a Lynn run, as they outscored Rollins 12-4 to wrap up the first, giving them a 21-14 lead.

Lynn continued to hold on to their lead in the second, reaching as high as an eleven-point advantage. Claire Erickson converted a layup with 8:14 to go, cutting the lead to eight. Unfortunately, that was the only Tar field goal for the next seven minutes before Aaliyah Irizarry-Perez scored off a Kaitlyn Sanders pass with a minute to go. Sanders added a layup right before the horn, making it a 36-27 game at the break.

Both teams were strong on offense in the third, with Lynn outscoring Rollins 24-21. The Tars were as close as six points on a Sanders jumper at the six-minute mark, but the Knights closed the third strong, and were up twelve going into the final frame.

The fourth quarter was a wild ride on both sides of the court for Rollins. In the first four minutes of play, the two teams combined for only six points. However, the Tars began to chip away at the Knight lead while also playing stellar defense. Knight managed to find her way into the paint for a layup with 5:47 to go in the game. That would be the final point scored for Lynn in the game.

From there, it was a race against the clock for Rollins. Sanders responded with a three, with an Erickson layup to follow to make the score 65-60. Two minutes later, Erickson scored again to make it a one-possession game. Unfortunately, the last five shots of the game were missed, and the game wrapped at 65-62.

Sanders and Erickson each scored 14 points to pace the offense. Irizarry-Perez scored eight points and pulled down 15 rebounds; she is averaging 14 rebounds per game over her last three.

Next up for the Tars is a home game against Eckerd on Wednesday, February 19. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 pm from Warden Arena.
