Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (February 14, 2025) - The Tars got off to a hot start in Indianapolis defeating Columbus State 4-2 in the quarterfinal match of the ITA DII Indoor National Championships. Rollins took down the #4 seeded Cougars by grabbing the doubles point and winning #1, #2, and #3 singles matches.
On the doubles courts,
Richard Stoiberer and
Luke Quaynor teamed up to prevail 7-5 in the #1 match.
Mo Anterist and
Pete Tran got the job done in #2 doubles pulling away with a 6-2 victory. Since the first two duos went the Tars way,
Nico de Giacomo and
Fabian Gusic did not complete their #3 doubles match. This is the third straight match that the Tars have nabbed the doubles point, setting the tone before singles match play. The early victories would turn out to be an indication of a good morning ahead.
Senior
Luke Quaynor pulled out the #1 singles victory in dramatic fashion to begin the day of solo action. After a 6-3 victory in the first set. Quaynor dropped set two 2-6 to set up a winner-take-all third set. After going into a tiebreaker, Quaynor pulled out a 7-5 victory to snatch the point way from the Cougars' #1 Daniel Hammond. In the #2 singles match,
Fabian Gusic followed a similar script. Gusic won set one 6-3, fell 2-6 in the second, and came away with the point with a 6-4 advantage in the deciding set.
The final singles point came by way of
Nico de Giacomo. The sophomore did not mess around, giving the Tars the match victory winning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. The Cougars two wins came in the #4 and #5 matches while #6 singles was left unfinished.
