WINTER PARK, FLA. (November 15, 2025) – Rollins women's basketball earned its first victory of the season at home on Saturday, dominating the University of Puerto Rico–Mayagüez Janes, 79–37.
The Tars set the tone early, locking in defensively to force an early UPRM timeout before jumping out to a 12–7 advantage behind a three from
Faith Newton.
Ellie Thompson helped fuel the pressure with a pair of steals in the frame, contributing to 12 Rollins points off 11 Janes turnovers in the opening quarter.
Elaina Kline-Ruminski and
Zai Mitchell each came out hot, putting up eight and seven points, respectively, to help Rollins take a 27–12 lead after one.
Offense slowed for both sides in the second, with
Victoria Escribano knocking down her first field goal of the day. The Janes briefly answered, but it was Kline-Ruminski who broke into double figures first, finishing a fast-break layup off a feed from Mitchell to extend the Tars' edge.
Grace Craig added her first points shortly after, stretching the lead to 17, before Mayagüez tallied the final bucket of the half.
UPRM opened the second half by trading baskets with the Tars, but Mitchell flipped the momentum back Rollins' way with a made three.
Claire Erickson then took over, piecing together a personal 6–0 run to widen the gap. A brief Janes push prompted a Rollins timeout, but Erickson responded immediately out of the break with another three, jump-starting a final push to send the Tars into the fourth up 57–32.
Rollins dominated the final period, limiting Mayagüez to just five points. The Tars balanced their attack, opening the quarter with back-to-back threes from Thompson and Erickson. Mitchell continued adding to her total, and Escribano followed with points of her own. Late threes from Thompson, Kline-Ruminski, and
Jordyn Egger, paired with free throws from
Makayla Daube, pushed the margin past 40 and sealed the 79–37 final.
The Tars saw 10 different athletes score on the afternoon, shooting just under 40% from both the field and beyond the arc while going 72% at the free-throw line. Rollins also added 35 bench points and forced 23 turnovers, converting them into 26 points. Mitchell led all scorers with 20 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Kline-Ruminski and Erickson joined her in double figures with 16 each, while Thompson paced the squad with a team-high four assists.
Rollins improves to 1–0 on the season and returns to action Monday, Nov. 17, for a 6 p.m. matchup against Fort Lauderdale inside Warden Arena.
