WINTER PARK, FLA. (November 17, 2025) – Rollins women's basketball earned a second straight win to open the season, taking down the University of Fort Lauderdale Eagles on Monday, 74–38.
Free throws controlled the pace early, with
Faith Newton knocking down the first field goal of the night to give Rollins the lead.
Claire Erickson and
Zai Mitchell followed with back-to-back and-ones to stretch the advantage, and a
Grace Craig finish made it 12–3 before a full minute passed without scoring from either side. Fort Lauderdale finally connected on its first field goal, but the quarter closed at the free-throw line, where both teams combined to go 15–24, accounting for most of the 19–10 margin.
Erickson once again sparked the Tars to open the second, restoring the double-digit cushion. Another scoring drought followed, allowing the Eagles to pull within five midway through the frame. A steady pair of Mitchell free throws broke the stall and helped Rollins settle back in, leading to back-to-back baskets from
Elaina Kline-Ruminski and
Victoria Escribano. Kline-Ruminski added another finish to close the half, keeping the Tars up 10.
Rollins exploded out of the locker room with a 9–0 run, sparked by Newton, Mitchell, and
Ellie Thompson. Craig followed by scoring the next three baskets of the game to push the lead past 20. The Tars locked in defensively as well, holding Fort Lauderdale to just six points in the quarter, all from the free-throw line.
Escribano and Kline-Ruminski opened the fourth with more momentum, extending the Rollins lead to 62–27. The Eagles added additional points from the stripe, but
McKenna Murphy answered with a pair of crafty finishes to help carry the Tars across the finish line.
Mitchell led all scorers with 18 points, adding eight rebounds and four assists in another complete performance. Craig and Kline-Ruminski each contributed 10 points, with Craig also posting a team-high three blocks. As a unit, the Tars shot 43.9% from the floor while holding the Eagles to under 16% from both the field and beyond the arc. Rollins dominated the paint with 46 points and added 26 more off the bench.
Rollins improves to 2-0 on the season and returns to action Saturday, Nov. 22, for its first SSC matchup of the year at Lynn. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. in Boca Raton, Florida.
