Tars Snag Nail-Biter on the Road

St. Petersburg, Fla. – Rollins battled through another five-set thriller on Tuesday night, taking down Eckerd on the road (25–23, 19–25, 23–25, 25–20, 20–18).

The opening set was tightly contested from start to finish, featuring 14 ties and four lead changes. The Tars struck first and traded points late before a big kill from Robinson Repass earned set point, setting up Emma Gongora to seal the frame and give Rollins the early advantage. The Tars kept their momentum rolling into the second, jumping out to a 15–8 lead behind strong play from middle blockers Makayla Moran and Repass. The Tritons, however, pieced together a nine-point run to flip the set, evening the match at one apiece. Eckerd carried that energy into the third, edging ahead early before Rollins fought back to take a brief lead, again behind a timely Repass kill. The Tritons managed another late push to claim the frame, going up 2–1. The fourth set saw Rollins turn the tide once more, using a balanced attack and a key kill from Marta Tsaneva to pull in front. Eckerd tried to rally, but clutch kills from Tsaneva and Cameron Grange closed out the set, forcing a decisive fifth.

The final frame was a nail-biter throughout. Down 5–7, Rollins rallied behind kills from Moran, Gongora, and Tsaneva, along with an ace from Grange, to retake the lead. The Tritons pulled even at 10–10, and from there, the two sides traded points through multiple ties and match points. Willow Barron came up with a critical save at 14–14 to keep Rollins alive, and after a series of intense exchanges, Tsaneva rejected a Triton swing at the net to earn match point. Gongora delivered the final blow with a kill to close out the 20–18 victory for the Tars.

Repass led the way for Rollins with 15 kills on a .387 hitting percentage, along with five total blocks. Tsaneva, Gongora, and Grange each added double-digit kills, combining for eight of the team's 13 service aces. Setters Molly Morris and Jenna Garza guided the offense with 25-plus assists apiece, while libero Sarah Seabrooke anchored the defense with 24 digs.

With the win, Rollins improves to 15–14 overall and 4–12 in SSC play, while Eckerd falls to 15–12 (5–11 SSC). The Tars will continue conference action on Saturday, Nov. 15, with a 4 p.m. matchup at Saint Leo.
