Two From Townsend Push Tars Past Lions

Rollins defeated Saint Leo 4-2 on Wednesday night

WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 29, 2025) - Women's soccer secured a home victory on Wednesday with a 4-2 win over the Saint Leo Lions. The Tars now advance to 6-5-3 (2-4-3 SSC), while the Lions fall to 3-9-2 (1-6-2 SSC).

It didn't take long for the Tars to get on the scoreboard with Alayna Townsend lofting a left-footed shot into the net at the seven minute mark, putting the Tars up 1-0.

Ten minutes later, Rollins was awarded a free kick after a Saint Leo foul. Emma Griner lined up her entry pass, and Townsend kept the momentum going, collecting the loose ball and blasting a right-footed strike to the top left of the goal for her second of the match.

Later in the half, the Tars were awarded a penalty after a rough takedown from the Lions. Emma McMurry converted it at the 28-minute mark, giving the Tars a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.

Midway through the second period, the Lions launched an aggressive push and finally broke through when Chloe Froese scored with an assist from Ella Van Doren. A minute later, the Lions energetic offensive struck again as Chayse McGirt set up Ilaria Miclet for the goal on a corner kick, narrowing the score to 3-2 with the Tars still in the lead.

With the momentum working against them, the Tars continued to play the game that had given them the lead earlier in the game. The Tars responded when Alice Tesser scored off a corner kick assist by Emma Griner, extending the advantage to 4-2.

From there, the defense shut down Saint Leo as the Tars held on for a win.

The Tars out-shot the Lions 14 to 8, including eleven shots on goal to the Lions' four. Townsend enjoyed her second multi-score game of the season.

Next up for the Tars is a home game against the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Saturday, November 1st. It is the final home game of the season for Rollins, and before the game, six seniors will be recognized for their contributions to the team by the coaching staff. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
