Winter Park, Fla. – Rollins hosted and won the Lake Virginia Invitational over the weekend, a regional regatta raced in FJs using a combined scoring format. A weekend of great conditions on Lake Virginia set the stage for a full slate of racing, with 14 total races completed across two days. Saturday opened with light, shifty easterlies before a steadier eight-knot breeze filled in for the afternoon, allowing all 10 races to be sailed. Sunday brought a light southerly that built to 8–10 knots, wrapping up the weekend with four more races and plenty of close finishes across the fleet.
Rollins won the event, earning the win with 151 total points (64 in A Division, 87 in B).
Saturday saw the Tars start strong. In A Division, Milo Miller (skipper) and Jane McKenzie (crew) opened the first six races, finishing all inside the top 10, including back-to-back runner-up results in races one and two and a win in race three. Milo Fleming (skipper) and Alexander Goldsmith (crew) took over for races seven and eight, posting sixth- and fifth-place finishes. Goldsmith then crewed for Miller in the final two races, closing the day with a third-place finish followed by another race win.
In B Division, Caleb Kinnear (skipper) and Adelaide Matzky (crew) started strong, recording four top-three finishes through the first six races. Matzky later took the helm with Cameron Kinnear as crew for races seven and eight before Caleb Kinnear returned as skipper with Mollie Wood for the final two races, adding another top-five result to close the day.
Sunday continued much the same for the Tars. In A Division, Milo Fleming (skipper) and Mollie Wood (crew) sailed the first two races, earning a win in race twelve. Matthew Sexton (skipper) and Alexander Goldsmith (crew) closed out the set, adding another top-three finish. In B Division, Caleb Kinnear remained at the helm with Matzky aboard, notching one final race win to cap the weekend.
The Tars return to the water next weekend, Oct. 24–25, for the SAISA Fleet Race Championships.
