FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Rollins opened the road portion of its Sunshine State Conference slate on Friday afternoon, taking on Nova Southeastern at the NSU Aquatic Center. The Sharks took the team victories by scores of 204.5–54.5 on the women's side and 157–105 on the men's.
The Tars set the tone early in the 200 medley relay, where both squads battled tight races to the finish. The women's quartet of Holly Hirsch, Taiylor Tegler, Melanie Angelov, and Gardner Viney placed third with a time of 1:49.67, while the men's group of Luke Dinges, William Slowey, Valentino Montedrande, and Trey Carter took second at 1:31.12.
In distance events, Seth Basinger highlighted the men's side with a win in the 500 freestyle (4:36.62) after taking runner-up in the 1000 free (9:35.71). Carter Kegle and Keanu Garnier-Chan followed closely in the 500 free, going 2–3 with times of 4:39.60 and 4:43.96, respectively.
The Tars saw another strong outing from Alexa Kwarcinski, who captured the 200 individual medley in 2:09.47 and placed third in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.87). Taiylor Tegler added a runner-up finish in the 100 (1:06.19), while Slowey swept the 100 breast (55.67) and anchored a top relay leg before grabbing second in the 100 free (44.73).
Dinges once again paced the men's butterfly group, sweeping both the 100 (49.31) and 200 fly (1:46.52). Montedrande backed him up with a runner-up in the 200 fly (1:54.41).
Additional points came from Viney, who placed third in the 50 free (24.43), while Hirsch and Sander contributed top-five finishes in the 200 backstroke.
The Tars closed the day with a competitive 400 freestyle relay, as the women's squad of Abby Jessup, Dylan Beeson, Hirsch, and Viney placed third (3:40.65), and the men's top relay, featuring Basinger, Kegle, Carter, and Slowey, posted a 3:04.25 finish, earning second.
Rollins will return to action at 12 p.m. tomorrow, October 18, when they host Tampa at the Alfond Pool.
