ST. PETERSBURG, Fla (October 15, 2025) - Women's soccer took home a much needed win on Wednesday, working a 1-0 victory against the Eckerd Tritons. The win moves Rollins to 5-4-2 on the year with a 1-3-2 record in the SSC. Eckerd moves to 3-4-3, 2-2-2 SSC.
The low-scoring affair opened with tenacious defense on both sides, and whistles were being blown all over the pitch. The first shot on goal didn't take place until the 20th minute when
Lauren Mehos stopped an Abby Knipp attempt. A slew of substitutions took place, but the only other excitement in the first half was a yellow card against
Gabby Boyd.
Mehos saw a couple of shots early in the second half, but was inactive for the final 35 minutes as the Tar defense tightened up.
Fast forward to the final minutes of play. Working off a throw in,
Emma Griner found space on the baseline and worked past her defender. She then delivered a perfect pass to
Alayna Townsend, who promptly ripped a missile to the top of the net for the only goal of the game.
Eckerd outshot Rollins 13-10, but the Tars had the advantage in shots on goal, 4-3. Each keeper recorded three saves in the game.
Next up for the Tars is another road match. On Saturday, October 18, Rollins will head to Boca Raton for a duel with the Lynn Fighting Knights. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
