WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 25, 2025) - Women's basketball ran out of gas late against Barry on Saturday, falling to the Bucs by a score of 75-71. The loss moves Rollins to 7-11 on the year and 2-9 in SSC play. The Bucs improve to 13-6, 6-5 SSC.
The Tars controlled the early part of the first quarter, coming out of the gate with nine points on their first five possessions, including five from
Claire Erickson. A 7-0 run from the Buccaneers gave them the lead, but Rollins quickly tied the game back up on a pair of free throws from
Kaitlyn Sanders. The two teams tied three more times before ending the first period knotted at 19 each.
The second quarter was an offensive display featuring six lead changes in the first 150 seconds.
Emily McIntosh found her stroke from deep, knocking down a pair of threes while Erickson stayed hot with another triple of her own. However, Barry stifled any sort of Rollins comeback attempt, and took a six-point lead into the halftime break.
Rollins turned to their defense in the third to make their way back into the game. The Tars limited Barry to 2-11 shooting in the frame, while knocking down eight of the fourteen shots they attempted.
Maddie Dillinger was the catalyst, scoring eight points while displaying a plethora of post moves on the low block to earn clean looks. Another three from McIntosh with under thirty seconds to play helped Rollins to a 58-57 lead at the horn.
After a couple of swapped buckets to start the fourth, Barry took back the lead. The Rollins offense hit a speed bump, failing to convert a field goal attempt for nearly four minutes until a three from Sanders made it 72-69 with four minutes to play. Moments later, a Sanders layup had the Tars within one possession once again, down just three with ninety seconds to go. Unfortunately, those would be the final points of the night for Rollins as their final three possessions netted zero, making the final of 75-71.
Dillinger led the offense with 18 points on 7-11 shooting in addition to eight rebounds and three assists. Sanders chipped in with 17 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Erickson and McIntosh each went for ten. Kaliyah Morales led all scorers with 20 points for the Buccaneers.
Next up for the Tars is a break on Wednesday night, followed by a road game at Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday, February 1. Rollins took the first matchup between the two teams on November 12 by a score of 75-48. Tipoff from West Palm Beach is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
