Fourth Quarter Rally Sends Sailfish Past Tars

Palm Beach Atlantic defeated Rollins 60-53 on Saturday afternoon

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (February 1, 2025) - Women's basketball suffered their sixth consecutive loss, falling to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 60-53 on Saturday. The Tars now stand at 7-12 (2-10 SSC) while the Sailfish improve to 12-9 (6-7 SSC).

Both teams were sluggish to start the first quarter, combining to shoot 8-32 (25%) from the floor. A Claire Erickson three gave Rollins an early lead, followed by four from Anna Kimball and a late three from Tara Murray that put the Tars up 10-9 after one.

In the second quarter, Paris Triplett provided a spark off the bench with four points, putting Rollins ahead. The Sailfish answered with a small 50 run to reclaim the lead, but a second triple from Erickson gave Rollins the advantage once more. Kimball was able to convert a post move in the paint with under ten seconds to play, giving the Tars a 24-22 lead at the break.

Rollins came out firing in the third quarter with a layup from Maddie Dillinger and five points from Emily McIntosh that gave them a 31-22 lead. McIntosh would add another three later in the quarter, plus another four points from Kimball to put the Tars ahead 44-38 after three quarters.

Palm Beach Atlantic opened the fourth with a 10-2 run to retake the lead. Kimball did her best to keep Rollins in the game, scoring the first six points of the quarter for the Tars. Her layup with 5:06 remaining gave Rollins a 50-48 lead. Unfortunately, the offense went stagnant from there, failing to score again until Kaitlyn Sanders knocked down a three with under a minute to play, pulling the Tars within one at 54-53. The final three possessions for the Sailfish resulted in points; the final three possessions for the Tars resulted in two missed shots and a turnover, leading to the final of 60-53.

Kimball had the best game of her young career, finishing with 15 points and seven rebounds in 25 minutes of action. Erickson added nine points and six assists as well. Kash Ayuso was the game's leading scorer with 24 points for the Sailfish.

Next up for Rollins is a home game on Wednesday, February 5th against Florida Tech. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 pm from Warden Arena.
