Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Tars Cruise Past Bearcats

Rollins defeated Lander 4-1 on Sunday afternoon

WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 8, 2024) - Men's soccer secured a confidence-boost8ing win on Sunday at home, taking down the Lander Bearcats by a score of 4-1. The Tars now stand at 1-1 on the year, while the Bearcats fall to 0-2.

Following their loss on Friday, things did not look great for the Tars as they allowed a goal in the ninth minute to fall behind early. In fact, they went into the break trailing 1-0 as they failed to get a clean look at the Bearcat goal.

Whatever Coach Keith Buckley preached at halftime worked, because a completely different team showed up for the second half. In the second minute of the second half, Isaac Hunter collected a ball near midfield and fed it ahead to a streaking Jorge Lameiras. Last year's leading goal scorer knew what to do, and tied the game up with his first of the year.

Seven minutes later, Pedro Lameiras found himself all alone just outside the box. He lined up a shot and ripped a rocket into the top corner of the goal to put Rollins ahead, 2-1.

The Tars struck for a third time just five minutes later when the elder Lameiras patiently worked past a pair of defenders and unloaded a shot from right to left past the sprawling Bearcat keeper.

The scoring barrage would wrap up in the 68th minute. After forcing a turnover, the younger brother sent a perfect through ball to a streaking Rory Doyle. The senior midfielder showed some touch, working past the oncoming keeper and tapping the ball into the low corner to mae the final of 4-1.

Jabari Gray earned his first win as a Tar, posting three saves in the victory.

Rollins next contest will be on the road at #13 West Florida on Friday, September 13. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm from Pensacola.
