Tars Fall in Road Match against Argonauts

West Florida defeated Rollins 3-2 on Friday night

PENSACOLA, Fla. (September 13, 2024) – Men's soccer dropped their first road match of the season on Friday, losing to the West Florida Argonauts 3-2. Rollins now stands at 1-2 on the year while the Argonauts improve to 2-1.

Offense was on full display in this one as both teams were relentless in their attack on the opposition's goal. West Florida was the first to break through, finding the net on a Mar Aegisson brace in the 27th minute.

The Argos would add to their lead roughly ten minutes later when Jack Patching collected the rebound off a free kick and fed Josiah Fontenot, who beat Jabari Gray to make it 2-0.

Rollins stayed patient and were able to find a response in the 41st minute. Striker Jorge Lameiras drew the attention of the Argo defense, and delivered a crisp pass to Finlay Prain, who found the low left corner for his first career goal as a Tar.

Following the halftime break, Fontenot found enough space to strike for his second goal of the night, making it 3-1 just four minutes into the second half.

The Tars would have one more answer in their bag. In the 60th minute, Lameiras collected a pass from Prain and delivered on his third goal of the season. Unfortunately, that would be the end of the scoring as both keepers stayed strong for the remaining thirty minutes of play.

West Florida took a preposterous 24 shots in the match, including eleven on goal. Gray saved eight of them, setting a new season high. Rollins had ten shots, with five on target. Each team received three yellow cards as well as the action turned feisty in the second half; a total of 36 fouls were called in the game.

Next up for Rollins is a date with the Spring Hill Badgers. The two teams will face off on Sunday, September 15 at noon.
