WINTER PARK, Fla. (May 3, 2024) - Rollins failed to comeback from a huge first inning deficit, leading to a 13-1 win for Florida Southern on Friday. The Tars now stand at 22-20 on the year, with a 13-12 mark in league play. The Mocs improve to 15-28, 9-16 SSC.
After retiring the leadoff hitter for Southern, things went off the rails in a hurry as the next eight Mocs hitters reached base via hit. A groundout interrupted the streak, but they added more damage with a single and a two-run home run to make it 10-0 after one.Â
Nate Thomas worked the end of the first, as well as the second and third in a nice outing from the bullpen, allowing just one additional run.Â
In the bottom of the fourth, Rollins scored their only run of the game on a solo blast from
Chris Sparber. It was his tenth dinger of the season, the second-most in the SSC.Â
The Mocs would add two in the fifth to make the final score of 13-1.Â
Both teams' pitchers essentially shut down the offenses from that point on. Â
Angelo Ramirez led the offense with two hits on the day.
Spencer Mangum and
Jack Haynes through a combined three innings of shutout relief to close out the final innings.Â
The teams will take Saturday off so Florida Southern can enjoy their graduation cermonies in Lakeland. They will then face off in a doubleheader on Sunday from Winter Park. First pitch is at 1:00 pm from Alfond Stadium. Before the game though, the coaching staff will celebrate seven senior players, with the ceremony beginning at 12:30 pm.Â
