WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (April 26, 2024) - Rollins suffered a heart-breaking loss, their third straight, on Friday night at the hands of Palm Beach Atlantic. The Tars now stand at 22-17, 13-9 SSC. The Sailfish improves to 16-25 overall.
Rollins struck first, rallying with two outs.
Chris Sparber,
Matthew Farner, and
Angelo Ramirez all singled, followed by an error from the Sailfish to score a pair of runs. Rollins would load the bases after their two runs, but did not score again. Palm Beach Atlantic cut one back in the bottom of the first on an unearned run via two-out double.
The Sailfish would add another run in the third on a sac fly, but starter
Edward Berry ended the inning without any further damage with the game tied at two.
Rollins had a fantastic chance in the fourth with runners on second and third with one out, but a fly out and lineout ended the threat.
The defense stepped big in the sixth when Palm Beach Atlantic hit three straight singles. On the third one, the runner on second tried to score, but was gunned down ona throw from Sparber to
Jimmy Thies to
Stephen Deans.
Rollins had a runner on second in the ninth, but could not score.
Ryan Taylor spotted Berry on the mound, and fired a 1-2-3 inning to send the game to extras.
Another prime opportunity showed itself in the tenth for the Tars as they put two men on with one out. The next two hitters flew out and struck out though, moving the game along.
In the bottom of the tenth, the Sailfish loaded the bases with two outs. A high chopper was sent to short, but the throw to first from
Jose Perez was too late, ending the game on a walkoff.
Berry was strong on the mound, with a final line of eight innings, seven hits, one earned run, and four strikeouts.
Angelo Ramirez led the offense with three hits, and RBI, and a steal.
The two teams will meet up again tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
