Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men Finish Season Undefeated at Home

Rollins defeated Warner 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 17, 2024) - Men's tennis wrapped up their incredible regular season with a 7-0 sweep on senior day against Warner University. With the victory, the Tars now stand at 18-1 on the season, and 15-0 at home.

Rollins suffered little resistance in doubles actions as they managed to sweep all three matches. Efe Comu/Moritz Stenzer breezed through court three for a 6-0 win. The point was clinched when Guillermo Castaneda/Charlie Putrino worked past Huth/Rodriguez, 6-1 on two. The Tars then captured court one with a 6-4 win from Luke Quaynor/Richard Stoiberer to finish the sweep.

Singles played to the same tune. Stenzer, a senior, wrapped up his home career in style with a 6-0, 6-0 win on five. Castaneda, another senior, was next up on three with his 6-1, 6-1 effort against Sam Routzahn. The Tars then took the point with a win on four, where Putrino, the third of four seniors, was a 6-1, 6-2 winner.

Rollins continued their winning ways with the remaining three matches, but it wasn't quite as easy. On six, Phillip McMurray was a winner after a 6-1, 1-6, 10-6 game against Niklas Huth. Richard Stoiberer then stepped up on two, turning in a 6-0, 3-6, 10-6 win. The final match to finish the day was on number one where senior Efe Comu outlasted Andre Balatzar, 6-4, 6-4.

Coach's Corner
"What a great day to celebrate our soon to be graduates! I'm honored to have been a part of their journey," said head coach Jay Friedman. "Can't say enough about G and what he means to this program's success and to me. Mo, Efe, Chuck ... are total studs each in his own right. We've had some tough times together, but I couldn't be happier for them to stick with it, stick with the mission we are on, and be reaping the rewards. We wouldn't be where we are without them, and to finish their careers undefeated at home is truly special given the history of these courts, and all the future holds. I'm filled with gratitude for these young men."

Next up for the Tars is the SSC tournament, which will be held April 26-28 in Lakeland. Rollins is locked in as the #2 seed
