Tars Take Series with Doubleheader Split

Rollins and Eckerd each won a game on Saturday

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 13, 2024) - Rollins and Eckerd split their doubleheader on Saturday from Martin Luther King Jr. Park, giving the Tars the series win. Rollins now sits at 32-11 on the season, and 15-9 in SSC play.

Game One
Eckerd 3, Rollins 1

The first game of the day saw Rollins struggle to get their offense going, spoiling a quality start from Emily MacMullen. After a scoreless first, MacMullen struck out the side in the second. Rollins would put two on in their half, but could not bring them around to score.

Eckerd got on the board in the third with a double, sac bunt, and RBI single. They would then add two runs in the fifth on a pair of RBI singles, making it 3-0.

Again, Rollins ad a golden opporunity in the fifth with runners on second and third, but they were lef stranded after a deep flyout from Ashley Worrell

MacMullen retired the Tritons in order in the sixth and seventh, giving her team one last chance. Tayor Waters ripped a double to the gap to score Kaeli Zahradnik, but the next two hitters would be put out, ending the game at 3-1.

MacMullen scattered five hits, allowed three runs, and struck out six in her outing.

Game Two
Rollins 2, Eckerd 0

Worrell was the story in this one as she handled things in the circle, and drove in both runs of the game.

It seemed as though Rollins got on the board in the first with a sac fly, but the home plate umpire ruled that Grace Germer left too early from third, resulting in a double play.

The second and third innings were uneventful as Worrell and her opponent, Reese Founds, were dealing. In the bottom of the fourth, Worrell stepped up and launched a two-run home run to left, scoring herself and Claire Long to put the Tars on top 2-0.

From there, Worrell breezed into the seventh inning. Two walks put the winning run at the pate, but a soft groundout ended the game.

Worrell's final line read seven innings, two hits, no runs, two walks, and five strikeouts. She also had two hits at the plate.

Rollins has a bye for the upcoming weekend, and will return to action on Friday April 26 when they host Palm Beach Atlantic.
