WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 26, 2024) -
Ashley Worrell dealt, the offense came though in the clutch, and Rollins walked away with a 3-0 win against Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday evening. With the win, the Tars move to 33-11, 16-9 SSC.
Rollins overcame a couple of fielding errors in the first two innings with the help of an unassisted double play from
Hayley Lazo and strong pitching from Worrell.
In the bottom of the third, Kaehli Zahradnik led off with a bunt single, and moved to second on a groundout. During the next at bat, a passed ball allowed Zahradnik to move to third, and the throw down from the catcher bounced off the fielder's glove, allowing her to score.
After a low key fourth, Worrell blew away the Sailfish in the fifth, striking out the side. Rollins threatened in the bottom half, putting runners on second and third, but they could not bring the runners in.
Palm Beach Atlantic threatened in the sixth with two runners on, but again it was Worrell coming through with a big strikeout to maintain the 1-0 lead.
Rollins added a pair of insurance runs in the half of the sixth when
Brie Michelli and Worrell singled.
Jodee Matos spotted Worrell as a pinch-runner, and scored alongside Michelli when
Sarah Young ripped a double to left field to make the final of 3-0.
Worrell added two more strikeouts to her ledger in the seventh, completing her third straight shutout.
Her final line read seven innings, two hits (both singles), zero walks, and nine strikeouts. Zahradnik had two hits and Young had two RBI to lead the offense.
These two teams will face off in a doubleheader on Saturday from Winter Park to wrap up the series. They will be the final two home games of the year for the Tars. Rollins will be celebrating five graduating student-athletes following the games.
