No. 4 Tars Take Down No. 13 Mocs, 4-3

Rollins rallied from being down 3-1 to get the win on Friday

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 12, 2024) – The fourth-ranked Rollins men's tennis team picked up another close win on Friday afternoon, defeating No. 13 Florida Southern, 4-3. The Tars are now 17-1 on the season, 6-1 in SSC play, while the Mocs drop to 15-6, 2-4 in conference matches.

COACH'S QUOTES:
"Florida Southern has always been a very feisty match for us as long as I've been here," said Head Coach Jay Friedman. "They are playing some really high-quality tennis and there's no doubt in my mind Rhett will continue to get that program headed the right direction. We came out on top today but they are a dangerous group. Big praise for Guillermo, Luke, and Richie all staying calm and playing great ball down the stretch when they were left on and we needed all three to win. Richie exuded a wonderful calm energy when it all fell to his racquet to finish the job. Great mental effort, just so proud of this group and the way they have come together."

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Doubles
  • Luke Quaynor and Moritz Stenzer got a 6-3 win on court two, but FSC grabbed victories in the other two matches to take the doubles point.
Singles
  • After the Mocs got a quick win on court five, Stenzer scored the first point of the day for the home side with a 6-3, 7-6 (5) win on court six.
  • Florida Southern pulled out a three-set victory at No. 1 singles to go up 3-1, putting the Tars' backs against the wall.
  • Guillermo Castaneda kept Rollins alive with a comeback win on court four, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
  • Quaynor battled hard to tie the match at 3-3 with a 7-6 (5), 5-7, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles.
