Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Tars Dominate in Win Over #8 Wayne State

#15 Rollins defeated #8 Wayne State 4-0 on Thursday afternoon

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 7, 2024) - Men's tennis proved their hot start to the season was no fluke with a convincing 4-0 win over #8 Wayne State on Thursday. The Tars are now 9-0 on the year, while Wayne State moves to 7-5.

The Tars got things started on the doubles court with a quick 6-1 win on court one from Luke Quaynor/Richard Stoiberer against #4 ranked Cedric Drenth/Daniel Grey. The point was secured on the third court when Efe Comu/Nico de Giacomo took down Benjamin Hill/Joe Steele, 6-2.

Singles play started off with a bang as Comu dealt a 6-2, 6-0 loss to Grey, who came into the day ranked #13 in the country. Next up was Guillermo Castaneda, who managed a 6-3, 6-2 win on court five against Hill. The match then wrapped nicely on court six as Charlie Putrino handled Emil Mikkelsen, 6-1, 6-4.

The remainder of the matches went unfinished since the match was decided.

"We have quite the stretch here with Wayne State, number eight in the country, Saint Leo on Saturday at three in the country, and Mississippi College on Monday, ranked fourth," stated head coach Jay Friedman. "Today we got one step closer to showing where we belong. Very happy to see our guys playing well, and doing the mental work when things aren't flowing to hang tough."

The Tars' next contest will be against the aforementioned #3 Lions on the courts at Saint Leo University on Saturday. First serve is set for 2:00 pm.
