SAINT LEO, Fla. (March 6, 2024) – The Rollins women's tennis team knocked off a ranked opponent for the second time this week, upsetting No. 4 Saint Leo on the road on Wednesday, 4-3. The Tars had dropped the last seven meetings between the two schools, with Rollins' last win over Saint Leo coming on March 1, 2017. The win puts the Tars at 4-4 on the year, 1-3 in conference, while the Lions drop to 6-4 overall, 2-2 in SSC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Doubles
- After Saint Leo got the win on court one, Katie Groves and Eve Wasil picked up a 6-2 victory on court three to tie things at one match apiece.
- Nancy Liu and Erin Yaroshuk clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles to put the Tars up 1-0.
Singles
- The Lions scored the first singles point with a win on court five to tie the match, but Groves answered back with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court three to make it 2-1 Rollins.
- Milla Falster put the Tars on the brink of victory with a solid 6-1, 6-4 victory on court six, but Saint Leo came back with wins on courts four and two to knot things up, 3-3.
- It all came down to the No. 1 singles match, with Polina Vlasova sealing the win for the Blue and Gold with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win.
