Win Streak Reaches Seven with Doubleheader Sweep

Rollins defeated Cedarville twice on Monday evening

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 4, 2024) - Rollins picked up wins number six and seven in a row on Monday evening with a doubleheader sweep of the Cedarville Yellowjackets. Rollins now stands at 14-5 on the season.

Game One
Rollins 10, Cedarville 0

The offense was clicking early for the Tars as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first inning. Thirteen batters went to the plate, picking up eight hits along the way. They also added six stolen bases in the inning. What's more, they scored seven of the eight runs with two outs, thanks in large part to a throwing error from the Jackets that led to seven of the runs being unearned. Grace Germer had two hits, two runs, two steals and a RBI in the inning.

Cedarville put two in scoring position in the second, but Ashley Worrell worked a strikeout and a lineout to first to end the threat.

Rollins would add their final two runs in the third on a Taylor Waters bunt single that scored Bella Bertorelli, and a groundout RBI from Worrell.

Taylor Hartman fired scoreless innings in the third, fourth, and fifth to earn the win in relief.

Five Tars had multiple hits in game one.

Game Two
Rollins 12, Cedarville 1

Another quick attack in the first set the tone for game two. The Tars only needed two hits to score the runs as they were helped by a two wild pitches, a couple of walks, and an error from the Yellowjackets to go up early.

Cedarville responded quickly with a run in the second when a pickoff attempt got past the Tars' third baseman to make it 4-1. Rollins also had an answer in their half, scoring on a Taylor Waters groundout.

In the third inning, Rollins busted the game wide open. They scored seven runs on only four hits. They were assisted by two wild pitches, five walks, and a hit batter to keep the inning moving.

Reese Twiggs fired two scoreless innings to wrap things up at 12-1. Emily MacMullen earned the win with three innings, four hits, one unearned run and five strikeouts.

The offense put together twelve hits and also drew eleven walks.

Rollins will be right back at it tomorrow, Match 5th with another doubleheader. This time they will host Chowan University at MLK Park. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
