No. 15 Tars Fall to No. 23 Lions

Rollins fell to Saint Leo 15-11 on Saturday

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 30, 2024) – The 15th-ranked Rollins women's lacrosse team fell to 23rd-ranked Saint Leo on Saturday, 15-11, at Barker Family Stadium. The Tars are now 10-3 overall, 2-2 in conference play, while the Lions improve to 7-4, 1-1 in SSC games.
 
Caroline Gastonguay led the Tars with four goals and an assist, while Charlotte Gastonguay chipped in with a pair of goals. Holyn Trautwein had a team-high six draw controls and Madison McGarry led the Tars with three ground balls and two caused turnovers to go along with a goal, an assist, and two draw controls. Anya Studebaker (8-3) took the loss, making four saves on 13 shots in 30 minutes of action.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
  • Caroline Gastonguay got things going with two goals in the first five minutes to give the Tars an early 2-0 lead.
  • After Saint Leo answered back with three straight scores, Charlotte Gastonguay tied it up with 2:20 to go in the quarter.
  • Sydney Nickel notched the final goal of the first period, giving Rollins a 4-3 edge.
Second Quarter
  • Caroline Gastonguay found the back of the net just 38 seconds into the second quarter, pushing the lead to 5-3.
  • Saint Leo responded with five straight goals to go up 8-5 before Molly Mendes stopped the streak with 2:10 to play in the half.
  • The Lions got a late goal in the final three seconds to take a 9-6 lead into the break.
Third Quarter
  • Caroline Gastonguay was the first to score for the third straight quarter, with Aleksa Allen following up less than 90 seconds later to cut the deficit to a single goal, 9-8, with 11:47 on the clock.
  • After a pair of Lion goals, Trautwein took a draw control all the way to the goal and scored, cutting the lead to 11-9 with 2:43 left in the third.
  • SLU added a late goal to carry a 12-9 advantage to the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter
  • Charlotte Gastonguay scored a woman-up goal just 20 seconds into the fourth to cut the lead to two again (12-10), but the Lions got the next two goals to regain a comfortable lead at 14-10.
  • McGarry scored with 3:03 left, but that was the final Tar goal of the day, as Saint Leo netted one more in the closing minutes to take the 15-11 win.

The Tars will be back in action on Wednesday, April 3 as they travel to Florida Tech for another SSC game, set to begin at 7 p.m.
