WINTER PARK, Florida (March 30, 2024) – The No. 6 Rollins men's lacrosse team returned to the win column on Saturday with an 18-10 victory over visiting Florida Tech. The Tars are now 7-2 overall, 1-1 in conference play, while the Panthers drop to 3-6, 2-1 in SSC games.
Logan Myers led all players with four goals and added an assist, while
Mikey Berkman tallied a goal and a game-high four assists.
Sean Caracciolo and
Sam Mattson each added two goals and an assist.
Thomas Garvin was 11-for-20 in faceoffs with three ground balls and
Shahé Katchadurian (7-2) made three saves on 12 shots in 55:39 of action in goal, adding game-highs in ground balls (8) and caused turnovers (4).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
- Caracciolo opened the scoring in the first minute of the game, with Florida Tech responding just under three minutes later to tie it at one.
- Grant Hansen put Rollins back in front before the Panthers once again tied it, 2-2, with 7:16 left in the period.
- Myers untied it less than a minute later and Mattson netted back-to-back goals to push the Tar lead to 5-2.
- After Florida Tech got one back, Berkman scored the final goal of the quarter to give Rollins a 6-3 lead.
Second Quarter
- Florida Tech scored first in the second quarter, but Hansen answered with a goal only four seconds later.
- Chad Bulera followed up with a goal 31 seconds after that, and Jack Johnstone tallied the next marker to make it a 9-4 game.
- The Panthers scored next, with Bulera quickly answering to give the Tars a commanding 10-5 edge at the half.
Third Quarter
- Max Armitage, Bulera, and Caracciolo each scored in the first nine minutes of the second half to build the lead to 13-5.
- After a pair of Panther goals, Myers got his second to make it a 14-7 game.
Fourth Quarter
- Myers completed his hat trick just over a minute into the fourth, with Johnston scoring less than two minutes later.
- The lead reached double-digits as Myers netted his fourth of the game with 6:59 to go, extending the margin to 17-7.
- Florida Tech got the next three goals before Samuel Hartmann closed the scoring with a goal in the final minute, accounting for the 18-10 final.
