MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (March 29, 2024) - Barry took the SSC series from Rollins with a doubleheader sweep on Friday, winning both games by a 6-2 score. The Tars move to 17-11 on the season and 9-6 in SSC play.
Game One
Barry got to Rollins starter
Nick Berger early, hanging a four-piece on him in the first inning thanks to three hits, a hit batter, and a walk. Rollins got one back in the third when
Chris Sparber singled home
Oscar Murray, but a baserunning gaff ended the Tars' threat.
The Bucs added runs in the fourth and sixth innings to go up 6-1. Rollins attempted a comeback in the eighth, but only managed one run in the inning thanks to a
Jack Herring RBI to make the final of 6-2.
Game Two
The second game of the day started with Barry scoring first again with a run in the first. Then next three innings were quiet on both sides, but the Bucs blew the game open in the fifth with four runs that were aided by a pair of Rollins defensive errors. The lead extended to 6-0 with an RBI single in the sixth.
The Tars avoided the shutout with two runs scored in the seventh. A wild pitch brought in
Rob Buckley, and then
Stephen Deans singled home
Jose Perez in the next at bat to make the final of 6-2.
Rollins' upcoming schedule is daunting for the next week. They will host #7 Saint Leo in Winter Park on Tuesday, followed by a three-game set against the #1 team in the country, Tampa, on Friday and Saturday.
