Tars Declaw Panthers

Rollins defeated Florida Tech x-x on Sunday afternoon

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 24, 2024) - Rollins wrapped up their SSC series against Florida Tech with a solid 7-3 win on Sunday. With the victory, the Tars move to 16-9 on the season with a 8-4 record in SSC play.

Chris Sparber got the party started in the second, leading the inning off with a double to left. After stealing third, he was brought in on a ground ball to make it 1-0. They would add a second run in the third when Oscary Murray's double to right plated Stephen Deans, who had reached on a single to lead off the inning.

With Ryan Furey handling the Panther offense, Rollins then blew things up in the fourth. The Tars took advantage of three walks, a hit by pitch, and three hits to score four times. Jimmy Thies, Deans, Jack Herring, and Mason Wilson all picked up RBI in the inning.

Florida Tech made it a game in the sixth when they opened the frame with a double, walk, and hit by pitch to load the bases. That brought Jacob Burr to the mound for Rollins. A single and a groundout would bring in a pair of runs, but that was all the damage Tech could muster for the inning.

Rollins was ready to answer back in their half. Jose Perez led off with a double, followed by a walk to Murray. After an out and a walk loaded the bases, a wild pitch on strike three to Sparber allowed Jose Perez to come in, making it 7-2.

Florida Tech loaded the bases in the eighth, but Jimmy Thies was able to snag a grounder, step on third, and fire to first where Murray made a nice scoop for an inning-ending double play.

After the Panthers scraped together one last run in the ninth, Ryan Murphy was able to work a double play ball to end the game at 7-3.

Furey earned the win with five innings of work, allowing two runs with six strikeouts. Deans led the offense with two hits and a walk.

Rollins will travel to Barry for a Thursday/Friday series later this week. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
